Untangle the Web – Fascial Release
Ages: 16+ Adult / Mature - all body types, abilities and genders
Fascia is the interconnective web-like tissue wrapping and holding every muscle, organ, bone, and nerve fiber in place from head to toe. When fascia is "stuck" it causes stiffness, discomfort, poor posture, limited mobility, and pain. Each 1-hour class will focus on a different area of your body, and includes various approaches to release stuck/constricted Fascia and create healthier fascia: breath practice, somatic movement, hydration, multi-directional stretching, and gentle sustained pressure on areas. You can pick one, two, or all 3 classes - choose the class(es) which focus on the area(s) you want to “unwind”. Bring a large bottle of water, wear comfortable clothes in which you can move and stretch. Yoga mats available and straps will be provided.
Week 1 - November 7 – Upper Body: Head, Neck, Shoulder, & Arms: release fascia in your neck (cervical spine), shoulders, arms & hands, and relax your nervous system.
Week 2 - November 14 – Lower Body: Hips, Pelvis, Legs, Feet: Open and create space in the pelvis & hips, and release tension in your legs & feet.
Week 3 - November 21 – Mid Body: Torso, Spine (thoracic, lumbar, sacrum, coccyx), Abdomen: Move through a gentle sequence following the fascial spirals of your torso to “unwind” tension and promote more fluid movement.
Instructor: Kate Southwick

Roots and Leaves - The Art of Foundational Contemporary Dance and Movement
Ages: Intended for adults and adults 55+ with little or no dance experience
In this class the foundational contemporary dance and movement concepts are an invitation for all abilities and to inspire confidence that all bodies can dance, move, and enrich community connections. We prepare to move. We notice what is relevant to our individual needs that encourages dance and movement choices that are right for our body. This is important as it brings individual awareness to a pathway of a kinder, gentler body-mind communication that feeds our well-being. This opens up our discovery to proprioception in our relationship to spatial awareness that can enhance a fuller sense stability in various forms for our bodies to relate to the nature of movement. By means of contemporary dance and movement concepts, we can creatively explore our own body's mobility, balance, strength, and alignment. This opens up our own body's wisdom and powerful archives that will give us our own individual unique resources to access the knowledge of our body. This will enrich our experience of dancing, moving together, making it feel right for you and as a class as a whole. We are all expressive and sensory marvelous human beings. Dance and movement enhance our joy, confidence, and mind-body harmony. Come and enjoy this time for you being inspired by music and artistic fulfillment. Wear clothing you can flow and move freely in to allow body awareness. Ballet slippers, bare feet, or non-slippery socks.
